Introduction

The Declaration of Helsinki (2013) establishes that, according to the ethical principles for medical research on human beings, “every clinical trial must be registered in a publicly accessible database before recruitment of the first subject”.
World Health Organization (WHO) considers that the registration of all interventional trials is a scientific, ethical and moral responsibility. The Peruvian Clinical Trials Registry - REPEC is a non-profit online information system developed in 2007 by INS. It is a publicly accessible prospective registry aimed at providing information about clinical trials underway in Peru. REPEC also includes Registries for Trial Sites, Institutional Research Ethics Committees, Sponsors and Contract Research Organizations. REPEC contains records of clinical trials since 1995.
Since December 14, 2012, the Peruvian National Institute of Health, by means of the General Office for Research and Technological Transfer (OGITT), has started a process to improve REPEC and to join the WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP) and to be acknowledged as a Primary Registry. More information about primary registries is available in ICRTP at http://apps.who.int/trialsearch/.
